Real Repair: 2022 MacBook Air M2 (A2681), No Power, Fixed at the Board
No power. No liquid, no drops, no abuse. A capacitor on this 2022 MacBook Air 13" (M2, A2681) main logic board spontaneously exploded, frying all three capacitors in that bank and blasting a hole into the board, severing the power line that runs to the FPC connector linking the main board to the daughter board. With that line open, the Air wouldn’t power on at all.
We ran a new line along the one trace path that still had room, bridged the three capacitors to restore the line voltage, and sealed the repair under green, UV-cured epoxy. On an M2 Air the storage is soldered to this board, so the alternative, a full logic-board replacement, is $700+ and your data gone with it.
What makes us look twice: this is the second A2681 we’ve seen explode in the exact same spot, no liquid or abuse on either. Two identical failures in one place makes us suspect a possible design weakness, not user error, exactly why component-level repair matters.
What is Logic Board Repair?
The logic board (motherboard) is the brain of your Mac. When it fails, most repair shops will tell you to replace the entire board - often costing $500-$1500+ for the part alone.
At The Mac Space, we perform component-level repair. Using specialized equipment and years of experience, we diagnose and replace the specific failed components on your logic board - often saving you hundreds of dollars compared to board replacement.
We do board-level work across the entire Apple lineup: MacBook Pro and Air, iMac, Mac Pro, Mac Studio, Mac mini, and even Apple displays that have logic-level failures inside the panel.
Logic Board Issues We Repair
Liquid Damage Recovery
Water, coffee, soda, or other liquid spills cause corrosion and short circuits. We perform ultrasonic cleaning and replace damaged components to bring your Mac back to life.
Learn what to do after a spill →No Power / Dead Mac
Mac won't turn on at all? Could be power management chips, fuses, or other components. We trace the power path to find and fix the failure.
MacBook not turning on? →No Display / Backlight Issues
Mac turns on but no image or very dim screen? Often backlight circuitry or display connector issues on the logic board.
USB-C / Thunderbolt Port Repair
Ports not working, not charging, or causing kernel panics? We repair or replace damaged port controllers and connectors.
MacBook not charging? →Power Management Issues
Not charging, random shutdowns, or battery not recognized? Power management IC failures are common and repairable.
Overheating / Thermal Issues
Mac running extremely hot or throttling? Could be thermal sensor issues or power delivery problems on the board.

Liquid Damage: What To Do
🚨 If You Just Spilled Liquid on Your Mac
- Power off immediately - Hold the power button until it's completely off
- Unplug everything - Charger, accessories, everything
- Do NOT turn it on - This can cause more damage
- Do NOT use rice - It doesn't help and can make things worse
- Do NOT use a hair dryer - Heat can warp components
- Bring it to us ASAP - Time is critical for liquid damage
The faster you get it to us, the better the chances of a successful recovery.
Logic Board Repair FAQ
It depends on the type and extent of damage. Liquid damage caught early has good success rates. Physical damage or extensive corrosion is harder. We'll be honest about the odds before you commit to repair.
Component-level repair requires specialized training, expensive equipment (microscopes, soldering stations, hot air stations, diagnostic tools), and significant time to diagnose and repair. It also involves real hazards - working with leaded solder produces toxic fumes, hot air stations reach extreme temperatures with burn risk, and voltage injection diagnostics carry their own dangers. You're paying for someone who knows what they're doing and is taking on personal risk to save your machine. It's skilled work that few shops are willing to do. That said, it's usually much cheaper than a full logic board replacement.
If we can't repair it, you don't pay for our labor - only the diagnostic bench fee and any parts that were used. We'll discuss replacement options or return your Mac as-is.
Apple Silicon boards have fewer repairable components since much is integrated into the chip. However, we can still repair power-related issues, port problems, and some other failures. We'll assess your specific situation.

MacBook Air M2 No Power: A Board That Blew Itself Up, Twice
A 2022 MacBook Air M2 came in dead, no liquid, no abuse. A capacitor spontaneously exploded and charred the board. It's the second we've seen fail in the same spot. The repair, and our theory.
Why We Repair Logic Boards Instead of Replacing Them
