MacBook Battery Replacement
Restore your MacBook's battery life - quality cells, 60-day warranty
Signs Your MacBook Battery Needs Replacement
Not sure if your battery is the problem? Here are the most common signs we see:
- "Service Recommended" in System Settings - macOS is telling you the battery has degraded past its useful lifespan
- High cycle count - most MacBook batteries are rated for 1,000 charge cycles. Once you pass that, capacity drops significantly
- Battery swelling - trackpad feels stiff or clicks oddly, bottom case is bulging, or the laptop wobbles on a flat surface. This needs immediate attention
- Drains in 1-2 hours - a MacBook that once lasted 8-10 hours now barely makes it through a meeting
- Random shutdowns - MacBook powers off at 20%, 30%, or even 50% battery because the cells can't deliver consistent power under load
- Won't turn on without charger - battery is so degraded it can't hold enough charge to boot the system independently

What to Expect
Battery replacement is one of the most common repairs we do. Here's how the process works from start to finish:
Free Inspection and Diagnostics
Bring your MacBook in and we'll check the battery health, cycle count, and overall condition. Sometimes the issue is not the battery itself - a failing charger, a rogue process eating CPU, or a logic board problem can all mimic battery symptoms. We figure out the actual cause before recommending anything.
Quote and Approval
You get a firm price before we touch anything. The quote includes the battery, labor, and our 60-day warranty. No surprises, no hidden fees. If we find additional issues during inspection, we'll let you know and you decide what to do.
Battery Replacement
We open the MacBook, disconnect and remove the old battery, clean any adhesive residue, and install the new battery. On models where the battery is glued to the top case (2016 and newer MacBook Pros), this requires careful removal to avoid damaging the trackpad cable and other components underneath.
Testing and Calibration
After installation, we run a full charge cycle and verify the battery reports correctly in macOS. We check that the trackpad, keyboard, and all other functions work properly. You pick up your MacBook with confirmed battery health at 100% and a 60-day warranty.
Battery Health Tips - Make Your New Battery Last
A replacement battery should give you another 3-5 years of solid use. Here's how to get the most out of it:
Avoid Extreme Heat
Heat is the number one battery killer. Don't leave your MacBook in a hot car, and avoid using it on soft surfaces like beds and couches that block the vents. If your MacBook feels hot to the touch regularly, something is wrong.
Don't Stress About Leaving It Plugged In
Modern macOS has built-in battery management that stops charging at 80% when it detects you're plugged in most of the time. You can also manually enable "Optimized Battery Charging" in System Settings. The old advice about constantly draining and recharging doesn't apply to modern lithium batteries.
Use a Genuine Charger
Knockoff chargers deliver inconsistent voltage that degrades battery cells faster than normal use. A genuine Apple charger uses a proprietary handshake to negotiate safe power delivery. If you need a replacement charger, we sell pre-owned genuine Apple chargers.
Keep macOS Updated
Apple regularly improves power management in macOS updates. These updates optimize how your Mac uses battery power and can make a noticeable difference in battery life. Check System Settings for available updates.
A Note on Battery Quality
Not all replacement batteries are created equal. The internet is flooded with cheap MacBook batteries that look right but use low-grade cells. These batteries often have lower actual capacity than advertised, degrade faster, and in some cases can swell within months of installation.
At The Mac Space, we use quality replacement cells that meet or exceed OEM specifications. Our batteries are tested before installation and come with a 60-day warranty. We don't install the cheapest battery we can find - we install ones we trust enough to put our name behind. That's the difference between a battery replacement that lasts and one that puts you right back where you started.
MacBook Battery Replacement FAQ
MacBook battery replacement pricing varies by model. MacBook Air batteries are generally on the lower end, while MacBook Pro 15" and 16" models cost more due to larger battery capacity and increased labor. We provide a firm quote after a free inspection so you know exactly what you're paying. No diagnostic fee, no hidden charges.
For common models where we have batteries in stock, same-day service is often available. You can drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon. Less common models may take 1-3 business days if we need to order the battery. We'll give you a specific timeline when you bring it in.
No. Battery replacement does not touch your storage drive. Your files, apps, photos, and settings stay exactly where they are. We always recommend having a backup as a general best practice, but the repair itself has no impact on your data.
On macOS Ventura and later: go to System Settings, then Battery, then Battery Health. It will show your maximum capacity percentage and whether the battery condition is Normal, Service Recommended, or Replace Soon. You can also hold Option and click the battery icon in the menu bar. On older macOS versions: hold Option, click the Apple menu, choose System Information, then Power - you'll see the cycle count and condition there. If you see "Service Recommended" or your maximum capacity is below 80%, it's time for a replacement.
Every battery replacement comes with a 60-day warranty covering the battery and our labor. If something goes wrong with the new battery within that period, we take care of it. Our batteries are quality cells that meet OEM specifications - not the cheapest option off the shelf. That said, a replacement battery should realistically give you another 3-5 years of normal use.
