iPad Charge Port Repair
Board-level charge port replacement for iPad and iPhone, done in-house in Marietta.
When an iPad stops charging, a lot of shops shrug or ship it off. The charge port on an iPad is soldered directly to the logic board, so replacing it is not a snap-in part; it takes micro-soldering to remove the damaged port and install a new one. That is exactly the work we do in-house.
Real Repair: iPad 10th Generation, Charred Port From a Knockoff Cable
A customer brought in an iPad 10th Generation that would not charge or turn on. The charge port was charred; our best read is that a counterfeit charging cable combusted at the connector and burned the port. She also had a cracked screen, and the iPad was stuck in DFU mode, the state an iPad drops into when it cannot boot.
Here is what we did:
- Desoldered the destroyed charge port off the logic board.
- Soldered on a new premium charge port.
- Replaced the cracked screen.
- Revived the device out of DFU without wiping it, so all of her data stayed intact.
Result: the iPad charges, powers on, and every photo and file she cared about is still there.
A Word on Cheap Charging Cables
A counterfeit or knockoff charging cable can push power the wrong way, run hot, and in the worst cases burn the port it is plugged into. We see the damage firsthand. If a cable feels warm, fits loosely, or came from a gas-station bin, it is not worth the risk to a device you rely on. Use a quality cable and a quality charger.
Signs Your Charge Port Is Failing
- Your iPad only charges when you hold the cable at a certain angle.
- It charges slowly, or it stops and starts.
- You see "This accessory may not be supported," or nothing happens at all.
- The port looks dark, dirty, or burnt inside.
- The device will not power on even after a long charge.
Sometimes it is just lint packed into the port, which we check first; sometimes it is the port or the board itself. We diagnose before we quote.
We Repair iPhone Charge Ports Too
Charge ports fail on iPhones the same way, and we replace those at the board level as well. If your iPhone will not charge, our iPhone repair team can help.
Charge Port Work Is Logic Board Work
Replacing a charge port is micro-soldering on the logic board, the same skill set behind our board-level repairs. If your device took liquid, will not power on, or is stuck in a boot loop, our logic board repair service can help, and we treat your data as the priority on every repair.
iPad Charge Port Repair FAQ
It can be either, and sometimes it is just debris packed into the port. We diagnose first: we check the cable, clean the port, and test the battery and charging circuit before recommending a repair. You get a straight answer, not a guess.
Yes. The charge port is separate from your storage, so replacing it does not erase anything. We recently revived an iPad that was stuck in DFU mode after port damage and kept all of the customer's data.
Yes. iPhone charge ports are soldered to the board just like iPad ports, and we replace them in-house.
More common than people think. Counterfeit cables can run hot and burn the port; we have repaired ports that were literally charred. A quality cable is cheap insurance.
It depends on the device and the damage, since it is a soldering job. We give you a timeline when we diagnose it, and you can ask about expedited service if you need it back fast.
